Jammu, Apr 03 (KNO): The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday cautioned against the illegal pasting of posters and defacement of public property, warning violators of stringent penalties, including fines and possible imprisonment. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) , the civic body, said that unauthorized posters, banners, hoardings, and wall paintings have been found across various parts of the city, including public buildings, footpaths, electric poles, and bridges, causing damage to public assets and marring the city’s aesthetic appeal. “Defacing public property through illegal posters and writings is a serious violation of municipal laws. We will not tolerate such activities,” Devansh Yadav, JMC Commissioner said. “Strict legal action will be taken against offenders without any prior notice.” The corporation clarified that such acts violate the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000, as well as the corporation’s outdoor advertising policy. Officials noted that enforcement measures will include heavy fines, recovery of the cost incurred in removing the defacement, and even jail terms for repeat or serious offenders. “We are committed to maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of Jammu city. Those found damaging public property will face consequences as per the law,” the Commissioner added. The JMC has also appealed to citizens, businesses, and organizations to use only designated and approved spaces for advertisements and to cooperate in keeping the city clean and visually appealing—(KNO)
